Brands that are blogging WITH a purpose in mind achieve a 63% increase in engagement, and a 58% increase in revenue.

Most small businesses face many struggles on a daily basis, but when it comes to writing content the biggest question I get is; “What do I write about?”. Before I started actively writing content twice a week, I always stumbled and would spend hours asking myself that exact question.

I previously shared an article on the types of content MY audience engages with, and I will touch on these, and include more “types” of content that will hopefully inspire your blogging.

Over the last 8 years, I have redefined the content I write, based on what my audience wants to hear from me and this piece of content is no different. As I get asked this question a lot both online and offline, I thought I would share with you 15 blogging ideas to inspire YOU to write great content for your target audience.

  1. Guides

Regardless of your industry, you can always find a topic that would follow a “guide” like format. Beginner guides in particular are extremely popular.

  1. Interviews

I have both shared content where I have been interviewed, as well as content other thought leaders have shared around interviews online. It is always good to read something an influencer has said.

  1. Trending Topics

Earlier this year, one of my “trending topic” articles went viral. It had over 10,000 views, 1,400 likes and close to 100 comments JUST on LinkedIn Pulse. Find out what is currently trending in your industry, and tap into that “buzz” when blogging.

  1. Personal Stories

Two weeks ago I decided to share some case studies from various influencers and also decided to include my own personal story to achieving success. Show your audience that you are a REAL person through blogging about your personal story.

  1. What To Avoid

Whilst negative content may not always work, sharing “what to avoid” or “biggest mistakes” can be really beneficial for an audience.

  1. Give Advice

Let your audience get to know you and your product. If you have an innovative product/service, give your audience advice on how they can best use it.

  1. How-To’s

This was regular appearance for the “needs” of my audience. This type of content is informative, easy to follow and step-by-step based. Articles of mine that fit this criteria include “How To Find An Email Address In 60 Seconds”, “How To Write The Perfect Headline For A Blog”, and “How To Design A Digital Marketing Plan As A Small Business”.

  1. Myth-Debunking

Regardless of your industry, there will be something everyone believes to be true, when in actual fact it couldn’t be further from it. Position yourself as an influencer and use your experience to educate your audience.

  1. Problem Solving

There is a pain you are solving with your product/service, so find out the biggest problems your audience face, and solve them through blogging.

  1. Case Studies

Case studies are what give you the trust and authority to turn a potential customer into a paid customer and one of the best ways to do this is through case studies. Get inspired by the content your competitors share about their customers and do the same with yours.

  1. Contests/Giveaways

When you are running a content, or giving something away to an audience member, ALWAYS write a blog about it. This gives you something extra to share online to increase engagement around your giveaway.

  1. Upcoming Industry Events

Want to keep your audience in-the-know? Write content on the latest events in your industry, that you will also be attending.

  1. List Articles

I know that my audience read my articles that are list based, e.g. 5 Ways To Nurture And Win New Customers”, and “7 Tips To Writing Perfect Content”. Make sure your list has sharable content, and the longer your list is, the less written content you need for each “number”.

  1. Guest Blogging

If you don’t know where to start with writing your own content, have an influencer in your industry write content for your website, crediting them.

  1. Productivity

Achieving sales as a small business is difficult, but with improved productivity, this can make life a whole lot easier. Write content that INSPIRES your audience to become more productive with their time.
